What happened to the original Nike app?

Nike retired the Adapt app from the Apple and Android app stores on August 6, 2024. The shoes still work with their physical buttons. OpenAdapt is an independent project exploring how to keep app control alive.

Which shoes work with OpenAdapt?

Verified control is currently limited to Nike Adapt Auto Max running firmware 2.4.3M. The desktop implementation has physically laced the development pair; the iPhone app has authenticated both shoes and read their status. Other models and firmware versions are not verified.

Can I set up a newly purchased or reset pair?

Not as a complete, verified experience yet. First-time pairing is implemented and tested offline, but fresh enrollment and fit calibration still need hardware validation. New pairs keep app fit controls disabled until calibration is verified. Do not reset a working pair just to try OpenAdapt.

When can I install the iPhone app?

The iPhone app is in development for iOS 17 and later. A public TestFlight beta is planned, followed by an App Store release. There is no public install link or announced release date yet.

Does the app need an account or cloud connection?

The clients communicate directly with the shoes over Bluetooth. No OpenAdapt account or sync server is required. Pairing credentials stay on your devices; transfer between iPhone and Omarchy is manual.

Can I build an Android app or another client?

That is the idea. The original code uses the MIT license, with a Swift protocol core and a Python Bluetooth implementation to build from. Public source access is being prepared. Android, iPad, wearables, and experimental game integrations are invitations to build, not released products.

Is this an official Nike project?

No. OpenAdapt is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Nike. Nike, Adapt, and the shoe designs belong to their respective owners.
